How to choose between them

  • Waveform. TANK models are modified sine wave; the brand says to confirm every device supports it. The DSU-2000 is pure sine wave, which the brand says suits a broad range of devices within its limits.
  • Continuous vs surge. Size to continuous watts and leave room for surge.
  • Battery and cables. A larger inverter needs a battery bank and cable sized for the current; follow the manual.
  • Fuse and ventilation. Install with the proper fuse and keep the inverter ventilated.

Safety first

  • Run a generator outdoors, away from windows, doors and vents. Never run one in a garage, basement or enclosed space; carbon monoxide can kill.
  • Install battery-operated carbon monoxide alarms in the home.
  • Do not back-feed your house through a wall outlet; a transfer switch or interlock installed by a licensed electrician is the safe route.
  • Add up the running watts of everything you plan to run and leave headroom for starting surge (compressors, pumps).

FAQ

Can an inverter run a refrigerator?

Possibly, if the continuous and surge ratings and the battery can handle the compressor start. Check the appliance nameplate and the inverter specs.

Are these specs tested by you?

No. The numbers are the brand’s claims.
